She also stressed the need for people to think about their contribution.

“I think it’s really important that people think about what they are donating to,” she added.

One charity that has been criticised is the National Trust for England and Wales (NTEW).

Ms Poulster has also found it difficult to understand the importance of giving to charities that are not based in the capital, London.

“The NTEW is the largest charity in the world and the reason they exist is because of the money that they raise,” she explained.

“When you think about all the people that are actually going to benefit, you’re not thinking about London.”

She said the trust needed to develop a strategy to get people to donate to their organisations in the country.

“That’s what we have to do now.

We’ve got to build that relationship and build a relationship of trust and respect,” she concluded.

“If we can build that trust and that respect, it will allow us to actually achieve some of these objectives.”

“There is no one-size-fits-all,” Ms Palter said, and it’s important to remember that a donation from one person can have a big impact on another person.

“It’s not always easy to find the right charities, or the right places to give, because they are all so diverse.”
